Valen is a rapidly growing predictive analytics company in the property and casualty insurance market.  The company is a venture capital backed, growth-stage company and already has three of the top ten insurance carriers in the United States as clients.

 

 

Position Summary:

  • Valen is seeking entrepreneurial candidates with strong software engineering and mathematics background to join our software engineering team. We are looking for bright and motivated developers that will do whatever it takes to make our customers successful and help build Valen into a world-class company.

 

Areas of Responsibility

  • To deliver software of the highest quality in a timely fashion
  • To design and implement Valen’s predictive analytics software platform
  • To create unit and acceptance tests
  • To create code documentation (Javadoc, API documentation, developer’s guides)
  • To work as a team order to wow our customers

 

Experience/Knowledge/Attributes/Skills

  • Experience using Spring, JPA, Hibernate, Tomcat, J2EE/JEE, SQL Server, XML, XSD, ANT or related technologies a plus
  • Object-oriented design and analysis
  • Test-driven development
  • Agile software development practices
  • Continuous integration practices
  • Enterprise application development using the Java programming language
  • Firm grasp of SQL and Relational Database technologies
  • The ability to work in a highly-collaborative environment, and to interact with other team members
  • The ability to communicate technical designs to other members of the Valen team, to customers, and to prospective customers
  • Experience successfully delivering distributed, multi-tier, software-as-a-service, software products to customers

 

Education/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or other field, with significant software engineering work experience
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or similar field (Mathematics, Electrical Engineering)
  • Experience in predictive analytics, numerical analysis, data modeling, or data warehousing a plus.

                                                                                

The opening is in Denver, Colorado, and will require occasional travel to clients, prospects, and partners.
