At Valen, you will:

  • As a Solution-oriented Data Architect, lead thought and implement solutions:
    • Hands on design, development, testing and implementation of insurance based data environments in support of analytics.  Process activities include ETL and processing code to extract, profile, filter, clean, map, merge, de-dupe, and load raw data from multiple third party and client systems into well organized, standardized, version-managed, highly usable relational databases and marts, as well as normalized and de-normalized states to promote advanced statistical model development and production scoring of advanced statistical models
    • Optimal design of data objects to effectively process large volume of data in support of business intelligence, data mining, decision support, decision matrices, straight through processing, reporting, ad hoc querying and predictive analytics applications
    • Define strategic areas of improvement to allow incremental maturity of  data validation and cleansing process including mappings, transformations, derivations, imputations, and technical and business rule applications
    • Support application versioning to allow organized systematic implementations of upgrades including backwards compatibility to supported versions
    • Enforce code versioning and production implementation strategies for real-time and batch statistical model scoring (SAS and Java accessible) and data rule execution in development, test and production environments
    • Drive high efficiency and maturity through automation and standardization to achieve data processing scalability, speed and consistency
    • Data sources include a wide variety of legacy, mainframe, warehouse, billing, policy, and claims systems, as well as acquisition of data from third party data vendors
    • Current technologies include SQL Server, SSIS, Java.  Future technologies include integration with SAS.

Your Ideal Qualifications include:

  • Education:
    • BA/BS in Computer Science, Information System or related discipline; MS a plus
  • Data architecting knowledge/experience:
    • 5+ years experience with data architecture, analysis and design concepts including 3+ years experience designing with relational databases, data warehousing, or data mart schemas and implementation of those designs in a production environment
    • Experience architecting analytic and reporting environments utilized by analysts and modelers for advanced analytics, modeling, and standardized reporting
    • Knowledge of data storage, performance tuning, data staging, ETL, warehousing and reporting
    • Knowledge of SQL: Both DML and DDL knowledge (SQL Server T-SQL experience a plus but not required.  Procedural SQL required.) with a deep understanding of performance, standards, and best practices in large datasets
  • Commercial insurance lines industry data knowledge/experience:
  • Insurance data types and objects including policy information, coverage information, industry codes, claim processing information, types of loss, injury codes, worker/auto/property classification codes.

 

Major pluses:

  • Highly proficient SAS programmer, including complex data manipulation using SAS data steps and SQL, Proc IML, the SAS ODS components.  Advanced SAS macro programming. Report design, development, and delivery in SAS.
  • SQL Server relational database management
  • Experience with SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office

 

The opening is in Denver, Colorado, and will require occasional travel to clients, prospects, and partners.
