We will do this through the smart and expert integration of advanced predictive modeling and analytics into the insurance policy booking, underwriting, pricing, and claims operations processes. At Valen, you will:
- As a Client-focused Data Analyst, deliver statistical grade data sets:
- Apply key concepts of data typing, cleansing, and data analysis to creation of data stores, data warehouses in support of predictive analytics, data mining, and business intelligence
- Engage with clients to understand client business systems including identification of data transmission, mapping and import solution strategies.
- Design, develop, code, test and maintain data procedures and reporting scripts
- Assist other data analysts and modeler analysts with ad hoc queries, SQL diagnostics and general data questions
- Use analytical skills and experience to find gaps, detecting issues, diagnosing bugs and resolve challenges
- Cross-train data users to understand and use Valen procedures, processes and data outputs
- Promote high client-satisfaction through excellent communication skills
- As a Team-focused Data Analyst, conceptualize and contribute to mature robust solutions:
- Develop configurable and repeatable solutions using SAS/SQL skills to drive data processes and standards
- Collaborate with client resources, business analysts and modelers to create intelligent derivations, transformations and standardization of data
Your Ideal Qualifications include:
- Education:
- BA/BS in Computer Science, Information System or related discipline
- Data analysis knowledge/experience:
- 5+ years experience with relational data models and their particular data objects, constraints, functions, and procedures
- Ability to translated business requirements to data structure, including key development, data typing and aggregation of data
- Knowledge of SQL: Both DML and DDL knowledge (SQL Server T-SQL experience a plus but not required. Procedural SQL preferred.) with a deep understanding of performance in large datasets
- Highly proficient SAS programmer, including complex data manipulation using SAS data steps and SQL, Proc IML, the SAS ODS components. Advanced SAS macro programming. Report design, development, and delivery in SAS.
- Disciplined coder utilizing best practice coding methodology, documentation practices, and version control
- Experience with data ETL methods and tools
- Client Services skills:
- Able to work in a competitive, schedule driven environment
- Ability to travel 10% of the time
Major pluses:
- SQL Server relational database management
- Experience with SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services)
- Experience testing and prototyping database systems
- Knowledge of commercial P&C insurance work flow and data structures
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of predictive modeling practices and algorithms
The opening is in Denver, Colorado, and will require occasional travel to clients, prospects, and partners.
